As is described in this entire page, Hyperbola is a free (libre) system distribution aiming to replace Arch GNU/Linux completely. However, Hyperbola deviates from its base by aiming for compliance with the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), long-term support, stability, security, simplicity, privacy, and having release cycle similar to, and corrections/patches based on, Debian GNU/Linux.

However, contrary to common belief, Hyperbola's origin isn't related to Parabola. In fact, Hyperbola started as a personal practice made by some Parabola developers in order to provide FHS compliance and predictable release cycle for their individual personal use, but the debates between Parabola and the original Hyperbola contributors didn't impact in the origin of Hyperbola.
